MOZAMBIQUE

I had the great chance to fly all the way to Maputo, Mozambique for a week work in 1999. I was running an Internet training workshop for a development project team. I also had the chance while there to go one day to a small village outside the capital.

I met some terrific people in Mozambique in just a few days. But the one I will never forget is a 9 year-old boy I met in Magude, a small village two hours drive from the capital. Sometimes I wonder about Luis. What does he do now? Where does he live? How much has his village changed?

I enjoyed watching these two little boys playing with their home made toys: an old can, a stick of wood and a small piece of metal for one, and the frame of a bicycle wheel for the other... I remember thinking at that moment about kids back home who always wanted the latest toy only to leave it in a dark corner of their room a week later...
